Deferment of flights in St. Kitts and Nevis due to new variant of COVID-19
After discovering a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 Virus (Novel Coronavirus) detected in the United Kingdom. This results in suspension of travelling to ensure restriction of COVID-19 expansion. Consequently, British Airways (BA) flights between the United Kingdom (UK) and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis have been adjourned for two weeks, from Saturday, December 26, 2020, to Saturday, January 2, 2021.

St. Kitts & Nevis: After discovering a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 Virus (Novel Coronavirus) detected in the United Kingdom. This results in suspension of travelling to ensure restriction of COVID-19 expansion. Consequently, British Airways (BA) flights between the United Kingdom (UK) and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis have been adjourned for two weeks, from Saturday, December 26, 2020, to Saturday, January 2, 2021.
Reports say that this period is very crucial for the world. Chief Medical Officer Dr Hazel Laws affirmed this disclosure at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) COVID-19 on December 23, 2020.
The goal behind flight suspension
According to the news, the information of the new variant has been given on December 14 2020. Health authorities in the United Kingdom proclaimed to the World Health Organization (WHO). Reports stated that “Cases of the new variant have been detected outside of the UK too. The cases have been verified in countries like Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, and South Africa. On the other hand, 19-people tested positive in Saint Lucia, whereas 20-people found positive for COVID-19 in Jamaica.
If travelling would not have been suspended, then there are hundred per cent chances of widespread of the new coronavirus. Researchers and Scientists have summarised that the Novel Coronavirus’s new variant has higher transmissibility power than the previous one (estimated between 40 and 70 per cent).
Besides, Reports stated that “there is currently no confirmation that the variations in the raceme protein will affect vaccine productiveness.” Whereas researchers’ initial reports suggested that the symptoms are similar to the previous coronavirus.
Government measures to stop the expansion of COVID-19
The UK government has been taking every step possible to stimulate the restriction on the spread of this new variant. The advised the citizens to take proper precautions and cautions. Even authorities have been working with the WHO to produce the vaccine as soon as possible. Travelling restrictions are one of the extraordinary measures, but the threat of new variant is still on heights.
