Cuba to get medical supplies assistance from Caribbean nations

Cuba: Various Caribbean nations are coming forward and will soon send a shipment of humanitarian assistance to Cuba, Banco del Alba, connected to the Bolivarian Alliance for the – Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP).

This assistance of medical supplies is expected to arrive in Cuba via air bridge that is activated between the financial institution & the Venezuelan Consortium of Aeronautical Industries and Air Services (Conviasa).

The Bank in a statement asserted that “Thanks to the solidarity of Barbados, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, & St Vincent and the Grenadines, 3,500 kilograms of medical supplies would be delivered to the brotherly people of Cuba, via the humanitarian airlift implemented by Banco del Alba and Conviasa.”

The ALBA-TCP nations endorsed their commitment during the summit of heads of State and Government held on June 24 in Caracas to strengthen the cooperation mechanisms so as to deal with the deadliest COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the statistics, a total of 8,394 new infections were reported on September 10, 2021, taking the total number of the confirmed COVID-19 cases to 729,000, while a total of 6,140 individuals lost their lives to the contagious coronavirus.

The Health Ministry further noted that a total of 6,104,513 individuals had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is around 53.9 per cent of the total population, whereas a total of 4,171,907 individuals have welcomed their second dose of the vaccine, which is about 36.8 per cent of the total population and are now fully vaccinated now.

Cuba is the first nation in the world to provide COVID-19 vaccine to toddlers with its homemade vaccine.

The island is already facing the sanctions that are imposed by the United States government, and now the COVID-19 pandemic has made the situation worse. In the past few weeks, the island was reporting higher numbers of daily cases, which are now somehow has been controlled a bit. The Cuban government is continuously urging its citizens to abide by the COVID-19 protocols and get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible.
