Cuba to export its homegrown COVID vaccines to EAEU nations

Cuba island is all set to export the COVID-19 vaccines to its member states of the Eurasian Economic Union – EAEU.

The information was shared by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz on Friday during an online address.

He cited that, “I reaffirm our readiness to share our modest experience in this fight against the deadliest COVID-19 and to cooperate in the production and supply of these products to the states of the bloc (EAEU)”.

The Caribbean island has also exported its homegrown COVID-19 vaccines to the various member states and other nations, including Venezuela. The island has claimed that its – COVID-19 vaccines – Abdala, Soberana 2 and Soberana Plus vaccines have an efficiency of more than 90 percent.

A few days back, Venezuela started vaccinating children between the age group of 2 to 11 years with the Cuban based homegrown COVID-19 vaccine – Soberana 2.

Vice President – Delcy Rodriguez stated that “In Venezuela, the use of the Soberana 2 vaccine has already been authorized to vaccinate children between 2 and 11 years old”.

Apart from this, Cuba has also sent teams of medical doctors to various nations, including Kenya, as a part of the medical exchange programme, with the aim to support their COVID-19 efforts.

In addition to this, Cuba was the first country in the world to vaccinate the population of toddlers with its homegrown vaccines.

Only a few months back, the island started the commercial export of its homegrown COVID-19 vaccines. If we look at the vaccination statistics of the island, there are a total of 10,102,486 individuals (89.2 % of the population) who are vaccinated atleast with one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

On the other hand, a total of 8,893,920 individuals have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines and are now fully vaccinated, which counts for 78.5 percent of its total population.
