CSG Patricia Scotland participates in Africa Climate Summit, talks about blue economy

The Commonwealth General Secretary (CSG) – Patricia Scotland, shared her views on the potential of a regenerative blue economy at the Africa Climate Summit.

Commonwealth: The Commonwealth General Secretary (CSG) – Patricia Scotland, shared her views on the potential of a regenerative blue economy at the Africa Climate Summit earlier this week.

This Summit has been attended by CSG Scotland along with the President of Somalia, the President of Mozambique and Vice President of Colombia.

Through an official X account, Patricia Scotland expressed gratitude and thankfulness towards the government of Africa and all the attendees of the Summit. She also highlighted that the major topic of the event was the ‘blue and ocean economy’.

Her social media message read, “Honoured to take part in a high-level panel at #AfricaClimateSummit, with President @HassanSMohamud of Somalia, President @FNyusi of Mozambique and Vice President @FranciaMarquezM of Colombia, on unlocking the potential of a regenerative blue economy.”

Furthermore, in another post, CSG Patricia Scotland highlighted that Africa has been doing great to uplift and grow the Ocean Economy. She also shared some statistics and emphasised that around 50 million households are financially supported by the Ocean Economy.

Through the post, the Commonwealth Secretary-General also anticipated that the generation through the Economy might increase by 2030, increasing job opportunities.

“In Africa, the Ocean Economy generates US$300 billion/year, supporting 50 million jobs. By 2030, this could be US$405 billion/year & 57 million jobs,” CSG Patricia Scotland noted through social media.

“Sustainable ocean management is vital,” she mentioned while adding that the Commonwealth Blue Charter will continue supporting the Blue Economy for the betterment and growth of the sector.

During her visit to Africa, Commonwealth Secretary-General – Patricia Scotland also met with leaders of other Commonwealth nations, increasing the diplomatic and business ties. Reportedly, she had a fruitful and productive interaction with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana.

The Secretary General of the Commonwealth outlined that she will always support the nations focused on climate protection.
