Commonwealth: Commonwealth Secretary-General (CSG) Patricia Scotland attended an intergenerational dialogue in Geneva. The prime focus of the event was youth and mental health. It was organised by the Commonwealth Secretary.
CSG Scotland shared the update regarding the event through her official Twitter account. While extending pleasure, she noted, “A pleasure to attend such an inspiring intergenerational dialogue on youth mental health, organised by the Commonwealth Secretary in Geneva on the morning of May 23.”
During the meeting, discussions were held between the health ministers of some of the Commonwealth nations. “Commonwealth youth leaders presented their experiences to Health Ministers from Bangladesh, Rwanda, Samoa and Jamaica,” informed CSG Patricia Scotland.
Along with this, she assured that the Commonwealth family will always remain dedicated towards the betterment and growth of youth. Mental health will always remain one of the major focuses of all the plans and implementations.
CSG further emphasised the observance of the ‘Year of Youth’. She highlighted that “as a family, we are committed to empowering Commonwealth youth to have their voices heard this Year of Youth – and combatting mental health to build a better future for all.”
In addition to this, she extended special thanks towards all the attendees of the event and outlined that such discussion holds immense importance as youth is the future of a nation.
CSG Patricia Scotland tweeted, “My thanks to Commonwealth Youth Health, Zahid Maleque – Health and Family Welfare Minister of Bangladesh, Yvan Butera – Minister of Health of Rwanda, Government of Samoa and Dr Chris Tufton – Minister of Health and Wellness of Jamaica for taking part.”
This effort by Commonwealth Secretary-General Scotland was praised by many around the globe and few of them even took the comment section to express their views. One Twitter user named Amara Wallace commented, “Bravo to the commonwealth of bringing this kind of initiate; this is one of the holistic approaches that some countries may focus on, because the youth are in trauma for a various reason, and they need counselling for the mental health.”
