Cruise ships get ban in St Kitts and Nevis for month of August

No cruise ships are allowed to enter the twin islands’ Federation of St Kitts and Nevis until vaccination status, and testing protocols are identified by the government. The Government of St Kitts and Nevis stated.

Tourism, Transport and Ports Minister, Lindsay Grant reported that in May, the CDC’s (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) no sail order had put a halt on cruising from the United States with cruise lines. In their best interest, they decided to resume cruising from the Caribbean and Caribbean homeports.

Minister Grant, while noting that Caribbean homeporting is no longer an option instead of that Florida has now become the main homeport for the majority of the Federation’s cruises. Governor DeSantis in Florida, and the CDC is currently in an ongoing court battle to prevent the CDC from enforcing guidelines that restrict the resumption of cruise homeporting in Florida.

Minister Grant said that at this time, as Florida allows vaccinated and unvaccinated passengers to cruise and the twin-island Federation has not yet achieved herd immunity, he will not allow for the country’s health sector to be exposed to more dangerous situations posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister Grant stated that the government of St Kitts and Nevis is trying to find a delicate balance between the economics and the health of their country. Due to this reason, the calls of the Allure and Symphony of the Seas have been cancelled.

To date, the Seabourn Odyssey has made three separate calls, with the travel-approved bubble vaccination tours that were very effective, according to a statement from the government of St Kitts and Nevis.

614 confirmed COVID-19 cases reported in St Kitts and Nevis and 53 active cases, out of which 3 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hrs. St Kitts and Nevis have not reported any new imported cases in the past 14 days. Medical teams have tested 26,778 persons for COVID-19, out of which 611 positive results have been reported, and 26,155 reports have resulted in negative, but still, 5 tests are pending.
