The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) introduces incentive program to salute the hard work and commitment of ground staff at host venues across the region.
The incentive program is designed to reward the ground staff’s hard work and dedication to the host venues across the region. This also acts as a means to acknowledge the critical role these teams play in ensuring pitch and outfield quality and, thus, determining the quality of match delivery during the tournament.
The amount that the CPL host venue will be receiving under this incentive scheme is cash valued at US $5,000. This amount will then be shared among the ground staff recruited for the pitches and outfield maintenance.
These mentioned staffs are the faceless people working in the background who, in the end, contribute to the atmospherics that adds the excitement and intensity to the CPL matches.
According to CPL’s Tournament Operations Director, Michael Hall, “One of the many ways that cricket is so unique is the reliance on ground conditions for how the match unfolds”.
He also pointed out the tremendous work of ground staff at all CPL venues to ensure the best possible facilities for the players stating, “I am pleased to reward their hard work with this new incentive scheme”.
A combination of various performance-related criteria will be used to distribute the incentives so that fairness is achieved. Having the incentive based on observable standards, helps to ensure that the CPL maintains and exhibits quality conditions for the tournament.
This is a true effort showcasing that CPL truly takes into consideration all the work that happens beneath the surface of making the tournament a championship quality performance.
The ground staff are the unsung heroes of cricket, doing their best so that the playing surfaces are up to championship standards. Their efforts would ensure that the performance on crease would be improved, and by extension, that would help enhance the fan’s experience.
The new incentive program allows CPL to create an atmosphere of excellence for the players and also for support staff.
The in-talk incentive will assure that the groundmen get incentive in ensuring the pitches are of quality even after the deliveries. This has acknowledged their input to the game, hence an indelible mark on the face of the tournament.
This initiative by CPL has set a precedent to encourage recognition of the backstage contributors to the sport, as perceived by CPL. These ushers cricket, once again, to be a team game effort as much in the playing field as in the outside field.
