Trinidad and Tobago: The Minister of Sports and Community Development has signed a contract with the authorities hosting the Commonwealth Youth Games 2023. The Ministry has stated that the signing of the contract has provided a green flag for preparations for the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.

Last Friday, the Minister of Sport and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe, officially signed the hosting agreement for Trinidad and Tobago to host the 7th edition of the games.

At the signing, she stated, “I eagerly anticipate these competitions as our young people get the chance to reach their fullest potential, showcase their athletic skills and build new networks.”

The games are scheduled to be held from August 4 to August 11 2023. This year, the Commonwealth Youth Games 2023 are informally known as Trinbago 2023, as the host of the tournament is Trinidad and Tobago. The seventh edition of the sporting event will be held in Port of Spain. The games were initially scheduled between August 1 and August 7, 2021, but were postponed to August 4- August 11, 2023, because of the global crisis – COVID-19 pandemic.

Trinidad and Tobago will host the games after initially the country was awarded the 2021 Commonwealth Youth Games in June 2019, but the sports tournament was postponed due to the impact of the pandemic on the international sports calendar.

The CGF started scrutinizing the best alternative options for staging the event in the future and then entered close dialogue with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) before an agreement was signed today at the CGF General Assembly.
