CARIFTA 2022: Dominica’s Treneese Hamilton bags gold in shot put

Dominica: The shot put player from Dominica – Treneese Hamilton has successfully won the gold medal in the Girls Under -20 Shot Put competition at the CARIFTA Games. The games have been organized in Kingston, Jamaica, after two years of the COVID-19 outbreak. Her longest throw was around 14.58 metres, which she threw during the first round.

Earlier, the 18-year-old shot put player won a bronze medal in U-18 in 2018 with a throw of 14.58 metres, which she also claimed in the first round.

Besides this, the second position was bagged by the Jamaican player – Britannia Johnson, whose longest throw was about 14.19 metres. She tried her best to rank first in the competition, but the rest throws were below 14 metres.

The third position and the bronze medal were bagged by Suriname player – Alicia Grootfaam. The longest throw of the Suriname shot put player was close to 13 metres (12.97 m).

The fourth and fifth position was secured by Cedricka Williams of Jamaica and Palesa Caesar of British Virg, respectively. The throw which helped the Jamaican player in achieving the fourth position was 12.13 metres, and Caesar managed to throw the ball at the distance of 11.73 metres after four (4) fouls.

After this tremendous victory, Hamilton informed a TV channel that she was very happy and proud that her efforts helped in achieving this milestone. She further optimized that other players who have been still competing in the competition will get inspiration from this victory.

She was quoted as, “I am very, very happy with my performance. This victory will help me to represent and put that effort on the table to be an example for my teammates who are still participating in the competition. I really hope that they can win another medal because everyone on my team is capable of winning a medal.”

Reportedly, this was the last CARIFTA competition in which Hamilton participated as now she has been planning to represent Dominica at other international sports tournaments.
