Georgetown, Guyana: Pooran Manman, a 44-year-old businessman, was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm without a license last week.

It is to be noted that Manman appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court to face the charges of illegal firearm possession.

Further, he pleaded not guilty to the offence of ‘illegal possession’ of one 9MM pistol, twenty-one (21) 12-gauge cartridges and sixty-nine (69) .32 live ammunitions at Track “A” Abram Zuil on December 26, 2023.

Noting this, his plea for bail was objected to, and the suspect was taken into custody and further remanded to prison until the next court hearing on January 12, 2024, for disclosure of the case.

Additionally, as soon as this news spread to social media platforms, many people shared their points of view by commenting on the post through their official Facebook handles.

One such comment, by the person Kishan Melville, read as “He deserves every bit of it. This man robbed me a few years ago. He sent us to bring out his excavator from the bush, and nothing was in place for us when we got there.”

While some people exchange their opinions, on the other hand, some people question the investigations of the matter.

For instance, a user by the name of Yudi Beharry commented, “How come the police always find a business man with unlicensed firearms but the criminals, they can’t. The system makes it difficult to own a firearm. Only the wealthy and police can affort it. Why?”

In addition, people are witnessing many crimes related to the businessman. Some days ago, Carl Reddy, a 57-year-old businessman of Second Avenue Bartica, was apprehended for Unlawful possession of ammunition on Friday.

On December 22, officers of the Guyana police force conducted an exercise in Regional Division #7. The officers seized a motorcar which was driven and owned by the accused, who is also called ‘Brother Carl.’

Police discovered twenty 16-gauge cartridges, thirty 20-gauge cartridges, one hundred and thirty .32 rounds, fifty-seven 12-gauge cartridges, one hundred and eleven 9MM rounds, forty-nine .40 rounds and two .25 rounds.

Reddy is currently under the custody of the police.
