Besides India, Ghana became first nation to receive COVID-19 vaccine

World: Ghana became the first nation outside India to receive COVID-19 vaccine shots shipped through COVAX Facility. Coronavirus pandemic made this world paralyzed, and the next dispute to solve was Vaccine equity.

WHO’s objective to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines globally, and this is the first step to accomplish it. The delivery is part of the first consignment of arrivals that will continue in the coming days and weeks.

On 23 February, the consignment of COVAX shipped 600,000 shots of the AstraZeneca/ Oxford vaccine from the Serum Institute of India (SII) from Pune, India, to Accra, Ghana, arrived on the morning of 24 February. 

The arrival in Accra is the first shipment shipped and delivered in Africa by the COVAX Facility as the portion of an unprecedented effort to deliver at least 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2021.

The world is at that phase of life where marginalized people need aid from privileged individuals. Still, there are parts of the world that are ignored from all the privileges that are considered as fundamental.

The measure of WHO towards Ghana is the initiation of revolution, and our world is ready to see a change in the future.

WHO tweeted, “600,000 COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Accra, Ghana this morning, making the country the first in Africa to obtain the vaccines from COVAX facility (co-led by WHO, UNICEF, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance , and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations-CEPI).”⠀

Furthermore, WHO added, “We are also working closely with administrations & manufacturers to ensure health workers or frontline workers & older people receive COVID-19 vaccines in all countries within the first 100 days of 2021.”

A resident said, “It marks a great achievement for Gana and the African Continent as a whole, well-done Brother. Custodio.”

Another Facebook user commented, “Thank you to all these organizations looking after all World Health. Everyone needs Care in order for this Pandemic to be under control.”
