Barbados: Vector Control Unit conducts fogging to eradicate mosquitoes

Bridgetown, Barbados: The Ministry of Health and Wellness commenced mosquito eradication to tackle the increase of dengue illness in three parishes. The Ministry is collaborating with the Vector Control Unit for breeding exercises.

As per reports, mosquito breeding is scheduled in different regions, i.e., St Andrew, St Peter, and St James, from Monday to Friday. The people in the Federation are advised to maintain cooperation during the exercise. 

Schedule of fogging programme

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has shared the fogging schedule, which started on Monday in Lakes and Shorey Village in St Andrew and will continue until Friday. Following are the dates and times scheduled according to the locations.

March 5, 2024

The fogging team will return to St Andrew on Tuesday and continue their exercises in Less Beholden, Chalky Mount, Newton Crescent, Cambridge, Environs, and Coconut Grove. 

March 6, 2024

The Vector Control Unit will visit the communities of St Peter on Wednesday for the mosquito breeding activity in Clarke’s Road, The Whim, Douglas Road, Corbin Road, Church Hill Road, Ashton Hall, Tom Bend Road, and other neighbouring districts. 

March 7, 2024

Fogging will continue in that parish in Cemetery Lane, Battaleys Mews, Mullins Road, Gibbs Glade, Gibbs Road, Sweet Home Road, Mullins Terrace, Piedmont Road, and nearby areas. 

March 8, 2024

The breeding activities will conclude on Friday, and the areas of Carlton View, Lower Carlton, Doughlin Road, Crick Hill, and Baird Road will be sprayed. 

It is to be noted that the fogging activities take place from 4:30 to 8:30 pm daily. The residents are asked to keep their windows and doors open to allow the spray to enter into their homes. This will help them to remove mosquitoes from their premises. 

The authorities urged the public not to allow their children to play in the fog and to remain in their homes till the ongoing spraying exercise in Barbados.

The fogging activities may be affected by events beyond the Unit’s control, and as a result, the Unit will return to affected communities as soon as possible.
