Bridgetown: The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) advised the people of the country about the possibility of deteriorating marine conditions, along with the western coastlines, due to low pressure in the Central North Atlantic.
However, the weather department has not yet announced any warning or alert on this system. The rough sea conditions are expected to prevail along the western coastal areas of Barbados from Six Men’s St Peter southwards to Brighton Beach from Tuesday 30 April onwards.
Noting this, these conditions are forecasted to continue until Thursday 2 May, after that the conditions are expected to improve. People, especially the mariners and sea-goers, are advised to avoid getting into the water.
In case of emergency, the fishermen are strictly advised to use on-duty lifeguards when venturing inside the water. Following are the key messages which are supposed to be practiced by the individuals:
– Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels
– Potential tumbling and rolling of unsecured objects
– Operation of smaller vessels can be tough at times due to large swells
Winds are expected to increase during this time. The update has been officially shared by the Barbados Meteorological Services through their social media (Facebook) handle. Therefore, people are urged to monitor the BMS website or Facebook page for further details.
In addition, BMS shares that the people of Barbados may experience a mix of clear skies and cloudy weather. There are some chances of brief isolated light showers. As per synopsis, a weak surface-to-low-level ridge patter will remain the dominant feature over the island.
Winds Across Barbados: The winds are forecasted to remain gentle easterly breeze from the speed of 20 to 30 km/ hour, which is equal to 12 to 19 mph. There is eighty per cent possibility of this forecast.
General Swell Information: The seas are forecasted to be smooth to moderate in open water, with swells spanning from 1.0 to 1.5 meters, corresponding to 3 to 5 ft.
It should be noted that BMS meteorologists forecast no significant dust haze over the island.
