Barbados logs 183 fresh COVID-19 cases on island

Barbados: Barbados reported a total of 183 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant, comprising 89 males and 94 females. So far, the island has reported a total of 8,792 confirmed cases of the deadliest mutant, according to the health ministry’s report till 1st October 2021. 

As per to the report, there are 1,075 individuals who are in isolation till 1st October 2021. While 78 individuals lost life to the COVID-19 mutant since pandemic hit the island. Three individuals who passed away on Saturday were 85-year-old woman and four men aged 52, 55, 58, and 65. They all were unvaccinated.

With these additional deaths, the toll of people who scummed to contagious COVID-19 outbreak has risen to 78. 

Since the pandemic started in the island country, that is – in March 2020, Barbados has reported a total of 8,792 cases (4,312 males and 4,480 females). The public health laboratory has performed 322,476 tests.

Barbados COVID-19 situation report further states that so far, a total of 137,138 individuals have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a total of 106,679 individuals that is 39.4 per cent of the population, has received their second shot of the vaccine and are now fully vaccinated against the deadly virus. 

Out of the 183 new cases registered, 34 out of them are under 18 years, and others 149 individuals are 18 years older or above.

Prime Minister – Mia Amor Mottley, along with the health ministry, is urging the citizens to abide by the COVID-19 protocols/measures such as – wearing masks, sanitizing frequently and maintaining a social distance. She also urged the Barbadians to take their jabs of the vaccine as soon as possible so as to decrease the chances of transmission and assist the nation in achieving its target of herd immunity.
