Barbados Health Ministry: Around 50 patients are under isolation due to COVID-19

Barbados: As per the data released by the health ministry, as of early-March 18, 2022, the total number of patients is 50; of these, 12 are in the primary, 31 in secondary, as well as seven (7) are in tertiary isolation.

Of the isolated patients, 56 percent – 28 patients were unvaccinated, and 36 percent – 18 patients were fully vaccinated. As per the statics by the health ministry, the unvaccinated comprised nine (9) persons in primary, 18 in secondary, and one (1) in tertiary isolation. Of those fully vaccinated, one (1) patient was in primary isolation, 12 in secondary, and five (5) in tertiary.

There were four (4) patients (two in primary isolation and one (1) each in secondary and tertiary) whose vaccination status is unknown.

The Barbadian health authority has divided the isolation wards into three – primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary and secondary isolation wards are for COVID-19 patients who accommodate those who are very ill and need close monitoring and treatment, and tertiary isolation patients are those who are mildly sick or not showing illness.

As per the official COVID-19 status in the country on March 17, the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory identified around 97 new cases, which compromised 46 females and 51 males. Of the positive cases, 15 persons were below the age of 18, and the remaining 82 were 18 years and older.

The total number of tests conducted was 713.

As of March 17, the deadly infection had claimed the lives of 326 people.

Under the National Vaccination Programme, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 160,761 (70.4 percent of the eligible population), and the total number of fully vaccinated persons is 150,580 (55.6 percent of the total population or 65.9 percent of the eligible population).
