Barbados: The Democratic Labour Party of Barbados commissioned Government’s press conference on Saturday as “a slap in the face” for frontline workers, jobless tourism workers, and other Citizens.
What was the full statement?
According to the conference, President of DLP, Verla De Peiza stated, “It was a slap in the face of every jobless former tourism worker who cannot repay their bills and has experienced nothing since lay-off benefits dried up, with rent leading and families on welfare.”
She added, “But how are we paying the capital earned? We are wasting it on extended testing, expanded numbers in isolation, heightened organizational costs with a whole new notifications team, and now for some visitors, a benefaction to their quarantine stay and return flights on offer. How do we repay for all of this, if not with the likewise dollars we were catching at?”
People have opinions that need to be heard!
Patrick Newton commented, “Thank God you are not pm today wanna Dems could not get the sewage off the street garbage off the road, not a bus to take school children and you never talking as long as I live would leave my home to vote for wanna them and will canvass against wanna for the remainder of my life.”
Wendy Blackett- Hyden commented, “Totally disagree with Verla De Penza; this pandemic is something that has never been seen before, and what does she expect for the Government to do, Bajans and tourists alike all have a responsibility to follow the recommendations to wear masks and social distance. No matter what the Government does, there’s going to be someone that doesn’t like it, and where did she see a slap in the face. If she could have done any better, she would be in leadership. She needs to stop complaining and be more positive in helping Barbados get through this pandemic. Everyone is being stirred in one way or another, because it’s unprecedented. No one has specific or definite answers, unfortunately.”
