Bahamian govt disseminates 6,000 KN95 masks to local organizations

Nassau, the Bahamas: Bahamian Government expanded the dissemination of free 6,000 medical-grade KN95 masks to curb the spread of the deadliest COVID-19 virus, among the local feeding programmes. This donation has been made as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure and assist the Bahamian population in being safe and controlling the rising COVID-19 transmission on the island.

These free masks were donated by the NEMA to Great Commission Ministries and Counselling Centre, International Deliverance Praying Ministry and Hands for Hunger.

Every organization has been provided with at least 2,000 COVID-19 masks to further distribute them among the general public, for which the organization officials appreciated and thanked Prime Minister Philip Davis led-administration for the much-needed timely donation.

Executive Director of Hands for Hunger, expressing delight over the donation, cited, “This free COVID-19 masks will help the general public to save themselves for getting contracted to novel coronavirus. It came at exactly the right time. It means a great deal and will go a long way, especially given that Hands for Hunger interacts so much with the public”.

The Government of the Caribbean island is planning to expand this mask donation drive to the other regions, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera and Central Andros. Not only this, but a free COVID-19 testing drive is also going on simultaneously in the different provinces of the Bahamas.

In addition, as per the statistics, the island country has recorded more than 31,693 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 mutant, while a total of 726 persons lost their lives to the deadliest mutant, to date, since the COVID-19 pandemic breakout in the Bahamas.

In terms of the COVID-19 vaccination, so far, there are a total of 158,965 individuals who are partially vaccinated by taking their first dose of the vaccine. On the other hand, there are a total of 150,372 individuals who are now fully immunized against COVID-19, which counts for 38,2% of the island’s total population. Around 3.7% of the total population have taken booster shots.
