Bahamas “Queen of Soul” Priscilla Rollins dies at 79

                                                    Bahamas: Priscilla Jasmine Rollins one of the most renowned entertainers and performers of Bahamas dies at the age of 79 on Saturday, 17th February, 2024. It is to be noted that the Bahamian singer was also known as the Queen of Soul.
Notably, Priscilla Rollins made a huge place in the hearts of the audiences with her excellent performances. Whenever she has performed, it has always left a mark on the minds of the audiences. Her followers used to enjoy her singing to a level that they felt her death as a personal loss.

Moreover, her song “Independence Morning” is still considered as one of the best tributes to the nation’s independence. She began her musical career with the gospel group called “Strachans Coral Group” during the late 50s-60s.
Subsequently, she joined The Mighty Makers and took it to another level as they emerged huge success and captivated the audience’s heart and attention. Later, in 1972, she collaborated with Tony McKay, the Bahamian producer and entertainer. Their collaboration released her debut album for the now-closed Roulette label.
Prime Minister of Bahamas, Philip Davis took to his Twitter account and extended condolences to the friends and family of the deceased. He wrote “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Priscilla Rollins, a beloved Bahamian icon known for her song “Independence Morning.” Her voice, a symbol of our nation’s spirit and independence, will be profoundly missed.
Ann and I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who were moved by her music. Priscilla’s legacy will forever echo in the heart of The Bahamas. May she rest in peace.”
Her soulful music and singing have left a legacy behind which will rest on many upcoming singers who are highly influenced by their experiences and talent.
Various residents of the community took to their social media accounts and extended condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
One person with a Facebook account Dianna Saunders commented “My condolences to the family may her soul rest in peace.”
“Condolences to her family!! A voice like no other!! May her soul RIP and rise in glory,” wrote Joann Chisholm.
Another person with a Facebook account Tryphena Bowe Knowles commented the following “Condolences to The Entire Family & Friends. RISE N Glory QUEEN.”
