Antigua and Barbuda witnesses surge of 11% in first quarter of 2024
Antigua and Barbuda witnessed a significant surge of 11% in the arrival of visitors in the first quarter of 2024 as compared to the last year. The data was unveiled at the 42nd edition of Caribbean Travel Marketplace conducted by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association in Jamaica.

Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua and Barbuda witnessed a significant surge of 11% in the arrival of visitors in the first quarter of 2024 as compared to the last year. The data was unveiled at the 42nd edition of Caribbean Travel Marketplace conducted by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association in Jamaica.
According to the data, the number of visitors recorded in the first quarter of 2023 include 87667 which made a significant growth of over 10,000 visitors in the current year, resulted in the arrival of 97341 stay-over travellers. Notably, the figures of visitors in 2024 have also surpassed the record set in the benchmark year of the island nation in 2019.
These figures shed light on the continuous efforts undertaken by the tourism authority towards elevating the island nation to heights. The 42nd edition of Caribbean Travel Marketplace was attended by several delegates of Antigua and Barbuda who held significant discussions with a vision to expand airline sector and promote the tourism industry of Antigua and Barbuda, establishing it as a premier destination spot.
Moreover, the tourism industry displayed its offerings, destination events and also mentioned the frequent cricket matches being conducted in the island nation in order to attract a large number of visitors. The representatives of Antigua and Barbuda attended over forty-five meetings with airline partners and travel trade. During the meetings, the delegates evaluated the performance of the island nation, charted progress, and explored several avenues with the motive of future collaboration.
The CEO of Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James, emphasized the expansion of the airline sector and stated that their partners are delighted with the positive performance of the island nation. He added that it is anticipated that a notable increase in airlift capacity can be witnessed, which is a result of strong demand for the destination and robust marketing.
He further added that the expansion in the flight services of Sunrise Airways and British Airways will also create a surge in the arrival of visitors and will benefit the growth and development of the country. The CEO also exchanges his dialogue with the media professionals and highlighted about the various aspects of the country and measures being implemented by the tourism ministry to make Antigua and Barbuda, a premier destination.
The launch of ‘Be’ marketing campaign is one of the initiatives started by the Ministry which outlines the commitment of the island nation towards enhancing sustainable tourism of the country and lead the nation towards growth.
