Airport expansion will benefit citizens of Tobago: Chief Secretary Dennis 

Trinidad and Tobago: Chief Secretary, Ancil K. Dennis, is encouraging Tobago citizens to see the ANR Robinson International Airport expansion project as an advantage to the people, economy, and overall growth of the nation.

Mr. Dennis says an upgraded and modified airport of international standards is expected to facilitate significant income for residents and, by extension, Trinidad and Tobago’s economy. 

Moreover, CS. Dennis stated that positive first and last impressions are significant for Tobago’s image as visitors arrive and depart the nation’s shores.

Chief Secretary Dennis indicates he is well aware that this airport is not the only element required for better tourism products. He stated, however, that the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL), in coincidence with the Division of Tourism, Culture, and Transportation (DTCT), is utilizing the absence of international-flights, due to closed border, as an opportune time to:

Upgrade various sites and attractions, inclusive of the Buccoo Boardwalk, and digitize the tourism product. Review sector policies and regulations. Increase the number of lands with the WTTC Safe Travel Stamp (104 properties approved).

Finalize Blue Flag approval for Kings Bay by year-end (2021) as part of a more significant Green assets thrust to induce travel. Continuous management of the Tourism Accommodation Relief Grant (125 properties signed on).

Collaboration with the Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (THTI) to commence customer service training with globally recognized service training provider ‘Up service.’ Partner with the Port Authority to reposition the Ferry experience.

Collaboration with the Tobago Festivals Commission Limited to promote the island’s culture. Advance marketing adjustments that will benefit the sector when the country’s international borders reopen. Continuous to engage and increase awareness among all stakeholders, including the general public.

Furthermore, Chief Secretary Dennis added THA has further supported the relocation process by providing significantly subsidized improved lands at Shirvan and COVE Developments at $30 per sq. ft. and $50 per sq. ft., respectively.

Chief Secretary Dennis advised any affected citizens who believe that they are being mistreated or are unable to move forward and lead an easy life as an outcome of the relocation.

Mr. Dennis stated the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) commitment to continue to work diligently to develop the economy and quality of life of every citizen of Tobago.
