A 9-year-old sexually assaulted at the UWI campus in Jamaica
A security guard of the University of West Indies Mona campus was charged by the St Andrews police for allegedly assaulting a nine-year-old at the university premises. As per St Andrew Central Police Division Senior Superintendent, Marlon Nesbeth the accused was arrested on Monday.

Jamaica: A security guard of the University of West Indies Mona campus was charged by the St Andrews police for allegedly assaulting a nine-year-old at the university premises. As per St Andrew Central Police Division Senior Superintendent, Marlon Nesbeth the accused was arrested on Monday.
It is suspected that the girl was also sexually molested and the authorities said that the investigations are ongoing. According to the police reports, an alarm was raised by the nine-year-old victim while the guard was trying to assault her, following which people came to the rescue of the child.
Notably, the accused whose real identity is still unknown to the public, also tried to escape from the crime spot, however, people managed to get a hold of him and later handed him over to the police.
Senior Supt Nesbeth further said that the accused remains in the custody of the police. While interacting with the media, police officials said that the security guard was employed by the King Alarm Group. As part of the investigation, the police also recorded the statement of the Campus Director of Security at the university.
““We are investigating that it was a sexual attempt also,” said Nesbeth while interacting with media earlier in St Andrews.
Such incidents of sexual assault against children continue to grow, with parents and the public demanding stricter laws and actions against the accused. The incident also caused outrage among netizens, who expressed their anger and frustration through social media.

Another social media user said that her heart goes out to the victim, showing concern for the child’s mental health,”My heart goes out to victim. She is a child and suffers so much. What impact she have on her mental health”, commented another user.
