311 active COVID-19 cases in isolation: Irving McIntyre

Dominica: During a press briefing of the Ministry of Health, Irving McIntyre, Health Minister, reported 311 active cases of COVID-19 in Dominica. Minister McIntyre mentioned that all cases were confirmed after the PCR test.

According to Health Minister McIntyre, out of total active cases of COVID-19 in Dominica at present, 159 are males and 152 females. In these effective cases, the cases range from age 2-88 years old. This COVID-19 virus has affected all age groups. 

In Dominica, there has been no death reported due to COVID-19. The cases of COVID-19 are recovering with a good speed. As symptomatic and asymptomatic are getting recovered. All active cases are in isolation in the COVID-19 care complex that is made in Portsmouth.

Minister Irving McIntyre said that testing would be in progress all over the island in the community centers. The facility has been laid so that every citizen of Dominica should know about their COVID-19 status.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit extended the curfew till August 17 2021. Along with this PM, Skerrit mentioned new exemptions during the curfew. These exemptions include lawyers who can go to their offices but meeting the clients would be prohibited. People can go to pay their insurance premiums or persons collecting their social security payments. 

The citizens who want to buy the spare parts of their vehicles would be exempted during curfew hours. Those passengers who want to travel out or Dominica of travel to Dominica.

PM Skerrit noted that the essential businesses would be allowed to be open from 6 am – 4 pm. This list contains banks, credit unions, money service businesses, village grocery shops, supermarkets, petrol stations and Pharmacies. The airports would remain operational, but the government has requested the passengers to follow COVID-19 guidelines, in case if anybody is found not following the guidelines, that person has to pay a fine of EC $500.
