Minister EP Chet Greene mourns passing of Patrick Lewis

Antigua and Barbuda: EP Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda mourns the passing of Dr Patrick Lewis, Former Ambassador on January 7, 2024.

Dr. Patrick Lewis, served as the country’s Ambassador to the United States and the Organization of American States, Not only this, he as well has been the Ambassador to the United Nations. 

His death on January 5, 2024 in the United States led the region into deep grief as his role towards the country can not be forgotten. He died due to a short illness at the age of 85 and his long contribution to the region has given a lot to the country.

Significantly, he has served from 1992 to 1995 as the Ambassador to the United States and OAS (Organization of American States) and from 1995 to 2004, he has been the Ambassador to the United Nations. This 12-year-long journey has given a lot to the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, EP Chet Greene also announced that the flags as part of half mast are lowered in the region, Antigua and Barbuda and in New York for the entire week. This even states the role of such a leader in two areas.

“ It is appropriate that the Foreign Ministry pay tribute to one of our fallen, who, in life, served our nation in two important International arenas,” stated the Foreign Minister, EP Chet Greene.

On the news of the death of Dr Patrick Lewis, the minister extended their condolences to his family and friends as well. Importantly, the government of Antigua and Barbuda will also be represented at Dr Lewis’ memorial service.

This will be led by Sir Ronald, the current ambassador to the US and the Organization of American States. Even the Office of the Prime Minister shared this on their social media and the public is also mourned on this.
