Guyana: Women in Workplaces Dominated NACOSH Awards, 2022

Guyana: The National Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) Awards held on Thursday, April 28, 2022, saw women within the Health, Oil and Gas and IT sectors at the top of the list regarding promoting safety and health in the workplace and reducing occupational accidents and illnesses.
The award ceremony was held at the Roraima Duke Lodge, saw in attendance Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, Permanent Secretary, Bishram Kuppen, Chairman of NACOSH; Earl Morris, Private Sector Commission Representative; Jairam Petam, OSH Consultant; Gweneth King, CEO of the Board of Industrial Training, Richard Maughn, among other officials from NACOSH and the Labour Ministry.
This year twenty-two (22) workplaces applied for the NACOSH Awards under five categories:
1. The Workplace Award
2. The Joint Workplace Safety and Health Committee Award.
3. Young Worker
4. COVID-19 Award
5. The Individual Award
6. The Special Award.
The applications were reviewed, and ten workplaces were nominated and received twenty-one (21) awards. In addition, two persons were selected for the special awards.
The nominated businesses were Exxon Mobil Guyana, Linden Hospital Complex, Guyana Shore Base Inc (GYSBI), Massy Distribution (Guyana), Guyana Industrial Minerals Inc, Ultracare Medical Center Guyana, PBS Technologies, DAI Guyana Inc, Guyana Power and Light (GPL), Machinery Corporation of Guyana Ltd and Saipem Guyana.
Before the ceremony ended, an award was presented to the Minister for his remarkable contribution to Occupational Safety and Health and Workers Safety throughout Guyana.
