Guyana signs MoU to increase closer technical cooperation
The President of the Caribbean island Guyana – Dr Irfaan Ali, met with His Highness – Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates – UAE. Following discussions, a Memorandum of Understanding – (MOU) was signed in order to elevate closer technical cooperation between the UAE and Guyana.

Georgetown, Guyana: The President of the Caribbean island Guyana – Dr Irfaan Ali, met with His Highness – Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates – UAE. Following discussions, a Memorandum of Understanding – (MOU) was signed in order to elevate closer technical cooperation between the UAE and Guyana.
MOU was signed by the senior Minister of Finance – Dr Ashni Singh and Reem Ebrahim Al-Hashimy – the Minister of International Cooperation and Managing Director for Expo2020 Dubai, in the UAE Pavilion at Expo2020 Dubai.
Apart from this, officials of both the nations held discussions to strengthen closer ties between the two nations and to discuss key areas of – technical cooperation.
Both the parties also discussed various areas, including – Food Security, Climate Change, the Environment, Technology and Infrastructure & revising the Visa policy for both nations.
“We came here with a clear intention that is to extend the ‘foundation of the relationship’ that we want to grow & expand for the betterment of both – the UAE and Guyana,” President Ali stated.
President Ali also engaged in discussions with the officials of Elite Agro of the United Arab Emirates to address investments opportunities in Guyana’s agriculture sector.
Elite Agro is one of the largest producers of fresh vegetables and fruits in the Arab region, with large-scale farms in UAE, Serbia and Morocco.
President Ali, who is on a working visit to the UAE, was accompanied by the Senior Minister in the – Office of the President with responsibilities for Finance – Dr Ashni Singh.
Expo 2020 is a “World Expo”, which is currently being hosted by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from – 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. Initially, the Expo was scheduled for 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Expo 2020 was officially opened on – 30 September 2021.
