Guyana: Major partners seek collaboration for Technical training

Guyana: Major Partners within the Industrial Sector sought collaboration with the Labour Ministry for the delivery of Technical Training.

– Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton engaged stakeholders in the Industrial Sectors at Guyana Basins Summit.

– Officials of the Labour Ministry engaged more than one hundred regional and international policymakers, oil and gas experts and technical and vocational service providers at the three-day exhibition.

The Guyana Basins Summit commenced on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, and concluded today, October 6, at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre.

This afternoon, Minister Hamilton visited the event and engaged several stakeholders, one of which was Suriname-based Pansa Holding Industrial Company. The company retails heavy-duty machinery and collaborates with agencies and the government for the delivery of technical training.

The company is not on Guyana’s shores yet but raised discussions with the minister to push the initiative to start operations in Guyana soon. The minister informed executives of Panda Holdings that the Ministry of Labour is working to shift the labour force so that citizens of Guyana can positively contribute to the industrial sector, which can only be done through the delivery of technical and vocational training.

Minister Hamilton also stated that the Basin Summit paved the way for his ministry to properly network with prospective investors who are willing to ply their trade in Guyana. He added that the ministry saw the importance of attending the summit’s exhibition to disseminate information on Guyana’s Labour and Occupational Health and Safety Laws and the leading training arm of the ministry, the Board of Industrial Training.

After an extensive discussion, the minister was given a brief demonstration exercise of the company’s advanced heavy-duty machinery that can contribute to the efficient training delivery of agro-processing programmes, which is offered by BIT.

The three-day Basins Summit attracted one hundred (100) exhibitors and speakers, five hundred (500) delegates and approximately three thousand (3000) visitors from across the globe, hosted under the theme: Responsibly Developing the Region’s Resources for a Prosperous and Sustainable Future.
