Govt of St Kitts and Nevis, Cuba signs collaboration agreement to enhance health sector

St Kitts and Nevis: The government of St Kitts and Nevis, as well as Cuba, has signed a Cuban medical collaboration agreement on March 22, 2022 (Tuesday).

The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis has also shared great and mutual partnerships with the Government and people of the Republic of Cuba. The agreement was signed because of the strong health bond maintained between the two countries since 1996.

The collaboration agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministries of Health of Cuba and Saint Kitts and Nevis, Ambassador David Rivero Pérez and the local Permanent Secretary, Dr Delores Stapleton-Harris, respectively.

“On behalf of the Health Ministeries of Cuba and Saint Kitts and Nevis, Ambassador David Rivero Pérez and the local Permanent Secretary, Dr Delores Stapleton-Harris, respectively, today signed a new health cooperation agreement, which will continue the Cuban medical collaboration in the Federation,” the government of St Kitts and Nevis informed.

The governments of both countries have optimised that to build international collaboration. The Cuban government will offer and allow the gradual increase of co-operators in both Federations – St Kitts and Nevis.

The government notified, “Cuba and Saint Kitts and Nevis maintain a close bond in the health sector dating back to 1996. The new agreement corresponds to the current characteristics of the international collaboration that Cuba offers and will allow the gradual increase of co-operators in both St Kitts and Nevis.”

As per the preliminary information by the Government of St Kitts and Nevis, for now, the Cuban Medical Brigade composes of twelve professionals who work in different specialities at different hospitals, including the General Hospital of Basseterre, Joseph N France and the Alexandra Hospital in Nevis.

On behalf of Prime Minister Harris, Ambassador of St Kitts and Nevis – Vance Amory stated that the bilateral ties between the two countries were declared at the seventh CARICOM-Cuba Summit held via video conference on December 08, 2020.
