A consignment of 20,000 doses of COVID 19 vaccines from India arrived in St Kitts and Nevis under the Vaccine Maitri program through OECS.

Donation of 20,000 doses of COVID 19 vaccines from India arrives in St Kitts and Nevis

St Kitts and Nevis: A consignment of 20,000 doses of COVID 19 vaccines from India arrived in St Kitts and Nevis under the Vaccine Maitri program through OECS.

The shipment of 20,000 doses of Oxford Astra Zeneca came from India to Antigua and Barbuda, then to St Kitt’s and Nevis via charter plane came from Mumbai.

A total of 1,75,000 Oxford Astra Zeneca doses came as a compliment from India under the Vaccine Maitri program. 

Moreover, this donation was approved because of the government’s bilateral relationships between St Kitts and Nevis, and India.

From 1,75,000 Oxford Astra Zeneca doses, it would be distributed among five Caribbean nations, including St Lucia, St Vincent, Grenadines, and the Republic of Suriname whereas, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda received their vaccines.

During the arrival of vaccines in St Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation St. Kitts-Nevis and Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, were also there to welcome their Indian guests.

PM Harris also stated that, “This generous donation of 20,000 doses of vaccines courtesy of the Indian Government, provides real hope for our people that working together we can defeat COVID-19.”

Furthermore, He added, “I commend India for the leadership they are showing and for the global role they are playing in helping to rid the world of this virus. I strongly urge other nations to follow suit.”

H.E Dr. K.J Srinivasa, Indian Diplomat. High Commissioner of India to Guyana, Antigua& Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis, CARICOM was there to represent India and gave a speech on India’s gift.

The government of India is distributing vaccines all over the world under the vaccine Maitri program, which also manifests the idea of vaccine friendship that can aid other countries to defeat COVID-19.

The Oxford Astra Zeneca is manufactured in the Serum Institute of India. They are the largest producers of the vaccine who has the potential to inoculate 50 percent of the world’s population.

On the other hand, Mark Brantley tweeted, “Our friend #India delivers some 20,000 doses of Oxford-Astra Zeneca #Covid vaccine to save lives in #StKitts #Nevis. Additionally, All the leaders of the Caribbean received the first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine. Indian PM kept his promise and helped to maintain the vaccine equity in the CARICOM.
