Dominica: The Sports Division and Harlem Sports Club 8-a-side Southwest District football festival coming in November.
The Sports Division is partnering with the major football club on the island to stage the 8-a-side football festival for communities in the eight sporting districts. The festival for communities in the Southwest District will be the first to be held at the Newtown Savannah from November 12th. This first festival will be done in collaboration with the Harlem Sports Club.
The 8-a-side football festivals will move to other districts and will be done in conjunction with the major football clubs within the district.
The 8-a-side festivals aim to create greater involvement at the community level, bring communities together, create an avenue for exposure of talents, create a grassroots sports structure and help strengthen the club structure.
Further details will be provided on the first and other upcoming festivals.
Sports Division is building communities through sports.
Earlier, a new Sports Committee was on Monday evening elected to serve the community of St. Joseph, and the committee members were elected at a meeting organized by the District Sports Officer, Edmund Audain.
The committee will be responsible for managing, organizing and coordinating sporting activities and performing other sports-related functions in the community.
The Sports Division is on a drive to establish these community-based organizations in order to bring greater structure to grassroots sports.
