Roseau, Dominica: Education is the key that can transform lives not only by knowledge but also by making a difference in the community. UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) highlighted that 250 million children and youth are out of school and it is necessary to address an issue.
“763 million adults lack basic literacy and numeracy skills,” mentions the UNESCO. And, this fact states the need to avail education opportunities to the children worldwide to foster their cognitive development. Considering this, the organization has also outlined that 44 million teachers must be recruited to achieve universal primary and secondary education in 2030.
The organization presented the fact that 70% of the countries contribute just less than 4% of their GDP (Gross Domestic Product – a standard measure of the income of the country). Such a concern outlines the global challenge that encompasses quality educational development from pre-school to higher education. Interestingly, the records from all around the world are saying that Dominica, one of the Caribbean regions, is hitting the bar.
Dominica’s contribution of GDP to education sector
The reports by the World Bank has stated that Dominica has given 5.1% of its GDP to the education sector in 2022. Further as well, it was stated by the government that the priority areas for 2023 to 2025 will be education and health.
In Dominica, the development in the education sector is being seen through the modern education systems that continue to develop plans and strategies which would focus on the educational sector.
Not only this, construction and opening of many of the new schools in the country are the part of this development which clearly reflects the works of authorities towards fostering education in the country.
The Government is moving with a great pace for the development as it is working on their agenda of constructing six schools across Dominica. Last month, the Prime Minister of Dominica discussed the plans for the construction of the new primary school with Calibishie residents which aims at enhancing the education sector.
