Dominica: PM Skerrit condolences death of renowned artist Earl Etienne

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit paid tribute to Dominica’s renowned artist Earl Darius Etienne, on February 24, Wednesday.

The Prime Minister said that the nation has lost a national treasure.

The tweet by Prime Minister Skerrit said, “Dominica has lost a national treasure. Earl Etienne was an exceptional talent; a creative genius, skilled in varied forms of artistic expression; and a mentor to the many he inspired to follow in his footsteps.”

He further expressed that he was a great admirer and will cherish his legacy. While remembering the great painter of Dominica he stated that Earl will be missed forever.

“I was a great admirer of his work and will cherish the pieces of his legacy left behind. He will be missed,” the condolence message by Skerrit further read.

The PM further extended the grief on behalf of the government and people of Dominica and prayed for his family, closed ones and other who are devastated by his passing. “On behalf of the Government of Dominica, I extend deepest condolences to his wife and children, and to the many others who are devastated by his passing. May he rest in eternal peace,” PM concluded.

According to the family of the demised painter, he died on Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) on February 23, Wednesday. He died after battling cancer for long time.

Etienne was known for his working on variety of materials from canvas, wood, paper, fabric to old recycled jeans, and his styles and genres of painting also varied.

He late Dominican artist returned to Dominica just this week, followed by being flown to Martinique for medical treatment.
