Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit delivered a keynote address during the opening session of the Regional Conference on April 5, 2022 (Tuesday).

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit delivered a keynote address during the opening session of the Regional Conference on April 5, 2022 (Tuesday).
The address was on the topic – “Identifying Regional Challenges and Opportunities to Address the Issue of Marine Debris, Sargassum and Marine Spatial Planning”. The session was organised by the World Maritime University.
The conference is held from April 4 – April 7, 2022, at the Jungle Bay Resort & Spa in Soufriere.
“Today, I had the pleasure to deliver the address during the opening session of the Regional Conference on ‘Identifying Regional Challenges and Opportunities to Address the Issue of Marine Debris, Sargassum and Marine Spatial Planning,’ organised by the World Maritime University,” Prime Minister stated while informing about the latest development.
Prime Minister further stated that the conference would also highlight climate-development topics, such as Socio-economic Assessments of Marine Plastic Pollution, Sustainable Solutions for the Future, and Climate Change and Small Island Developing States.
“The regional conference will focus on ‘Climate Change and Small Island Developing States,’ ‘Blue and Green Economic Responses,’ ‘Socio-economic Assessments of Marine Plastic Pollution and ‘Sustainable Solutions for the Future,’ among other issues,” he further stated.
Prime Minister Skerrit further stated that focusing on the protection of the oceans and other natural resources will be important to secure the well-being of the future generation.
“Within the context of our climate resilience initiatives, I welcomed the focus on the protection of our oceans and the need to preserve the abundance of life within it to secure the socio-economic well-being of future generations,” PM Skerrit further stated.
The conference was conducted by the President of the World Maritime University – Dr Cleopatra Doumbia, a distinguished Dominican who previously worked in senior management positions at the International Labour Organization (ILO).
