Roseau, Dominica: Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, recently participated in the 73rd meeting of the OECS Authority from June 18-19, 2023, in Basseterre, St Kitts.

“I am participating in the 73rd meeting of the OECS Authority, taking place in Basseterre, St. Kitts from June 18-19, 2023,” Prime Minister Skerrit tweeted.

The meeting was held during the celebrations for the 42nd anniversary of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean (OECS). This year, the anniversary was celebrated under the theme ‘Vision, Integration, Sustainability, Progress’.

Further, PM Skerrit noted, “This gathering coincides with the observance of the 42nd anniversary of the OECS on June 18 under the theme “Vision, Integration, Sustainability, and Progress”.”

The meeting was hosted by the government of St Kitts and Nevis under the leadership of PM Dr Terrance Drew. During the meeting, Prime Minister Drew assumed the Chairmanship of the OECS.

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Drew, highlighted that the government under his guidance will focus on youth, safety and security as well as the health sector of the Federation.

PM Terrance Drew mentioned that the invaluable service provided by the Regional Security System, RSS, must be recognized, as it offers the institutional and operational frameworks for serving the people of the Eastern Caribbean.

He added that the people of the Eastern Caribbean are served by the RSS, which stands as a fine example of small states cooperating to achieve common goals. Its further strengthening should be supported by all, making it more relevant to the challenges faced in tackling crime and violence in the region.

“Intra-regional travel should continue to be promoted, utilizing opportunities throughout our sub-region. Functional cooperation designed to improve the lives of our region’s people should continue to be promoted. May the Organization of Eastern Caribbean states live long. May the people of our regional integration movement live long. May our organization be blessed by God, and may our Caribbean nations be blessed,” Prime Minister Drew was quoted saying.
