Dominica Labour Party’s Vince Henderson has been elected as parliament representative from Grand Bay constituency in by-elections held on Thursday.
Henderson won the Grand Bay by-elections by receiving 1211 votes. The other candidates – Julius’ Handbag’ Gabriel managed to receive 161 votes while Clarenton “Twa Woche” Andrew was only able to get 3 ballots in his favour.
The elections took place after the sudden demise of the former parliamentarian Edward Registe in September this year.
While addressing the people of the Grand Bay constituency after his victory, Henderson thanked the people who showed their trust in him and Dominica Labour Party (DLP).
“From tomorrow onwards, I will no longer be the candidate for the Grand Bay constituency, I will be your parliament representative, and I will work for you, I will go to the parliament, and I will fight for you because I believe you have been true to Dominica Labour Party,” he noted.
Expressing his emotions, he emphasized that he won’t be able to forget the warm welcome by his constituents, adding, ‘I came here a few weeks ago, and I feel like I am a member of your family.
With this, he urged the people to show trust in him and in the DLP Leader and PM Roosevelt Skerrit, noting that they would not regret choosing him as their representative.
Besides this, he promised the people of Grand-Bay that he is and would continue to do work for their welfare, citing, “a lot of work needs to be done, and I will transform everything in my term’.
He further noted that amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, his victory could not be celebrated on a larger scale. He stated, “We all know we have COVID-19 around, we know we have COVID in our constituency, and it is our responsibility to be responsible; therefore, we cannot spend too much time celebrating together”.
