COVID in Dominica: 103 additional cases confirmed in 24 hrs

Roseau, Dominica: The Ministry of Health shared the COVID19 update report, as per which Dominica recorded a total of 103 additional cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. The total count of active infections increased to 662 as the new COVID cases were recorded.

The data shared in the health ministry’s report notes that seventy-one COVID-19 patients have recovered from the deadliest virus and got discharged from the hospital facilities. While, as of January 18, 2022, the death rate of Dominica remains at forty-eight. No death has been recorded in the past several weeks, which is indeed a positive sign in the island’s battle against the novel coronavirus.

To date, a total of 7546 recoveries have been reported on the island. Although, since the COVID-19 outbreak, Dominica has recorded a total of 8,256 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 mutant.

In terms of the testing, the healthcare facilities so far have conducted a total of 139757 COVID-19 tests, of which a total of 32895 tests conducted are of RT-PCR, whereas a total of 106862 individuals have been tested for the deadliest COVID-19 virus via Rapid Antigen Testing method, as of January 18, 2022.

A total of 31096 individuals are partially vaccinated while taking their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on the island. On the other hand, there are a total of 28769 individuals who have received their required number of the WHO-approved COVID19 vaccine jabs and are now fully immunised.

Additionally, speaking during the recent episode of Annou Pale, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit noted the government does not have any plans to impose a mandate vaccine policy for the public sector employees, and neither is imposing a lockdown in the country.
