Saint Lucia: Thirteen (13) athletes will represent the country at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, from July 28 to August 8, 2022.
Saint Lucia Team will head to the Games under the guidance of Chef de Mission Joyce Huxley, who Team Manager David Christopher will assist.
During a press briefing on Friday, July 15, at Olympic House to introduce some of the team to the media, Chef de Mission, Joyce Huxley, stated that the three boxers had left Saint Lucia on July 29 for the United Kingdom (UK), where they are preparing for the Games. Table tennis player De’Andre Calderon, she added, has been training in Germany for over a month now in preparation for the Games.
“Birmingham is unusual in that we don’t have all team members in the same location,” Huxley said about the team’s accommodation. “Our team will be split into two locations: the University of Birmingham and the National Exhibition Centre (NEC).”
Speaking about her expectations of Team Saint Lucia’s performance at the upcoming Games, she said, “I’m hoping to see best times and best events for each and every athlete in Birmingham. I think what we’ve done with boxing and table tennis, particularly, they’ve been given a great opportunity to get some additional training immediately prior to the Games.”
Meanwhile, Alfred Emmanuel, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of Saint Lucia, said he, too, has high expectations of the team.
“On behalf of the Executive Board of the Commonwealth Games Association of Saint Lucia, I wish each and everyone participating in the upcoming Games every success,” Emmanuel said. “Our organization has spared absolutely no effort in ensuring that the arrangements are in place so that everyone will be comfortable prior to and during those Games.”
