Caribbean: The world celebrated the occasion of Easter on April 17, 2022 (Sunday). The festival is mainly celebrated by the Christian community residing across the globe.
The community believes that the day marks the return of Christ to the earth after sacrificing his life for the sake of humanity. The resurrection proved him as the true son of God, who defeated evil and death before ascending to heaven.
Similar to Christmas, Easter is not celebrated on a fixed date. As per the holy book “Bible,” the day is celebrated three days later the crucifixion of Jesus by Romans and concludes the “Passion of Christ”, which begins with 40 days of fasting – Lent and is finished by the Holy Week.
Many Caribbean leaders wished Christians a happy, fulfilling, and enjoyable Easter holiday period on this sacred occasion.
Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, wished a blessed Easter to the people. He took social media and expressed, ““I am resurrection and life. One who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” – John 11:25-26.
May you have a Blessed and Holy Easter with your loved ones.”
The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda also extended the warm wishes and wrote, “Happy Easter! May this beautiful day testify to God’s love & glory.”
President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, stated, “Happy Easter, Guyana!”
Trinidad and Tobago PM Dr Keith Rowley penned down a long note to wish the Christians on the occasion of Easter. He wrote, “I reach out to the Christian community to extend Greetings on behalf of the Government of the Republic, my family and myself as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
Easter is one of the most glorious periods among the Christian community.
For this community, it is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and a time for the renewal of faith, in his message of love, hope, compassion and forgiveness.
While we celebrate now with both the Christian community alongside our Muslim brothers, who are observing the Holy Month of Ramadan, we must recognise that there are philosophical complications throughout the world.
It is a time when faith in God is being questioned; worldwide, millions are questioning the mysteries of God, many saying that the age of faith is over, and Belief is being challenged by “Unbelief” and substitution.
Citizens, in this season, let us join the Christian community in its renewal of Christ’s message of Love, Hope, Compassion and Forgiveness, bringing it all into our daily lives.
Have a happy, fulfilling and enjoyable Easter holiday period.”
Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell stated, “Today, as we celebrate Easter Sunday, let’s remind the reason for the season – the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the significance for those of Christian faith. I pray that we continue to live in love and be our brother’s keeper. Happy Easter, everyone!”
