The Canadian Government and the Pan American Health Organization are collaborating to improve health structure and protecting the population that may get affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Canadian government is contributing CAN$50 million (41,435,000 US dollars) in support of PAHO’s work in which they help the Caribbean islands and region of Latin America through various means just like in recent times PAHO is contributing a large vaccination rollout drive in both the areas and it also have projects that will help the refugees, migrating persons, indigenous people and where the health condition is hazardous.
PAHO Director Carissa F Etienne said that the collaboration was born with the common vision that COVID-19 vaccines should not be a privilege but a right for every person, regardless of their ethnicity, economic condition, gender, migratory status or whether they reside in a city or rural area. In this way, the Canadian government will help the Caribbean and Latin American countries to achieve progress in COVID-19 vaccination for every person starting with the women.
This includes training for public health workers and healthcare professionals on equitable COVID-19 vaccine rollout, as well as general technical assistance on supervisory and overlooking processes, vaccine delivery strategies, supporting vaccine procurement, logistics and cold chain challenges, strengthening communication strategies and advocating for fair access, allocation of vaccines and reinforcing immunization policies.
PAHO Director of Health Emergencies Dr Ciro Ugarte said, “Populations like migrants and indigenous communities move across areas and borders, and many times they do not have access to the health coverage they need.”
Offering vaccines to the migrant population can also decrease the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The people of the Caribbean and Latin American countries can decrease or slow down the effect of the COVID-19 virus spread that is affecting the health system of people in their countries by getting vaccinated and slow down the transmission of this virus.
Canada has been actively participated in every programme by PAHO since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic to make access of vaccines to the areas in the Americas and Caribbean with the help of the COVAX facility.
