Beryl turns into hurricane of Category 3, Barbados under threat
The Beryl became a hurricane on Saturday as it is moving towards the southeast Caribbean and is considered a Category 3 amd citizens have been asked to remain vigilant in Barbados.

Barbados: The Barbados Meteorological Service has asked all the citizens to remain vigilant as a hurricane warning is in effect for Barbados. The Beryl became a hurricane on Saturday as it is moving towards the southeast Caribbean and is considered a Category 3.
As per the National Hurricane Centre the beryl is expected to strengthen into a dangerous major hurricane before reaching Barbados and the Windward Islands late Sunday or Monday. Also, the forecaster is currently investigating the system and has found that storm-force winds in the outer bands ahead of the system.
Considering that storm-force winds are expected before midnight 1st July 2024. The center of Beryl is expected to pass about 73 miles (118 km) south of Barbados early Monday morning. As per Barbados Meteorological Service, heavy rainfall with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches can result in flash flooding during the passage of Beryl hurricane-force winds. Also, the deterioration in marine seas is also likely to impact the island.
The Meteorological Service has asked all the residents to monitor the weather websites, their social media pages, and the local networks for further information on Beryl so that they can remain cautious and take precautionary measures.
Moreover, Mia Amor Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados also addressed all the citizens of Barbados and asked all of them to plan for the worst and pray for the best thing to happen. She shared that thousands of people gathered together in Barbados for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final at Kensington Oval.
PM Mottley remarked that some fans and spectators had to rush to change their flights in order to leave the country ahead of the Beryl. Due to this tropical storm, several flights have been cancelled, ensuring the safety of all the travellers and local citizens.
She also all the residents to stock up on medication and keep all the crucial identification documents safe with them that might be needed by them in case there’s a reason to shift from one place to another.
