Bridgetown, Barbados: Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, is currently on an official tour to China, where she met with Premier Li Qiang in Beijing.
During this meeting, both leaders talked about important topics for mutual development and growth.
Prime Minister Mia Mottley said that Barbados has always given importance to the China-Barbados relationship. She underlined that both countries are working to promote sustainable development and improve lives.
She furthermore took the opportunity to thank China for its continuous medical assistance, especially during the times of COVID-19.
PM Mottley also outlined that Barbados is willing to strengthen and deepen the cooperation between China and Barbados, especially in the field of energy, agriculture, infrastructure construction, poverty reduction, education, culture and tourism. She also mentioned that jointly both countries will also work to tackle climate change and other global challenges.
The partnership between Barbados and China was lauded by Premier Li during this meeting. He outlined that his nation has been working to deepen the already existing diplomatic tie between both nations.
“We will deepen and enhance the strategic mutual trust and cooperation in various fields,” Li noted, having a fruitful conversation with PM Mia Mottley. He also pointed out that the authorities of both countries will make strategies to build China-Barbados relations into a model of solidarity cooperation, benefiting mutually.
He also mentioned that China understands the concerns of the small island developing countries, like Barbados, coping with climate change and its effects. “China is ready to work together to find ways to help these countries. They also want to assist developing nations in their efforts to switch to cleaner energy sources and make progress towards long-term growth,” the official said.
Premier Li also outlined that China is ready to assist Barbados in developing and growing exchanges and cooperation related to the economy, trade, culture and other important fields. He further highlighted China will work with Barbados to fasten the joint construction of the modern and high-quality Belt and Road.
Moreover, the Chinese Premier assured that his country will also contribute towards the enhancement of enterprises and business in Barbados. “China has been developing plans to import more competitive goods from Barbados, providing assistance for social and economic growth,” he said.
Reportedly, following the meeting, both leaders participated in the signing ceremony of various bilateral cooperation documents on the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the blue economy, local cooperation, and medical and health care.
