Agriculture Ministry provides special training aimed at strengthening land preparation, equipment operation skills

St Kitts and Nevis: The Ministry of Agriculture, St Kitts and Nevis provided specialized training to improve and strengthen the skills of land preparation and heavy equipment operators. The specialized training was provided in regards with it.

In the country, highly trained and certified Auto Mechanic of Glade and Grove Machinery in Florida, Jason Hodge arrived to avail the specialized training to the operators and staff of Engineering Unit. Not only to them, but it is also provided to the personnel in the Vehicle Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department.

Through all this, the aim of the Agriculture Department is to minimize downtime, reduce repair costs, and improve overall productivity. The initiative taken by the ministry in response to it is the part of wider capacity building exercise that is aimed at improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of agriculture operation on the Island.

The specialized training held was of two days which covered a wide range of topics that include the understanding of basic mechanics of agricultural machinery. This as well covered the aspects for identifying common issues and malfunctions, and implementing preventive maintenance measures.

The training provided all the insights that can help participants to be enriched with the knowledge that further can be proven fruitful for the work to be done for the development of the country, St Kitts and Nevis.

The participants were taught the practices or procedures of how to improve their technical skills and safely operate and handle equipment. This also has a part in ensuring optimal performance and longevity. 

The training was held to bolster the skills of land preparation and heavy equipment operators. The investment in the training has been deemed a strategic move to enhance the agricultural sector’s resilience and sustainability in the era of evolving challenges and demands.

The Agricultural Officer responsible for the Engineering Unit, Andy Blanchette, mentioned such an idea. He explained that the exercise is timely for the technical officers following the recent commissioning of two brand new Holland Tractors at the Agriculture Department.
