Trinidad and Tobago Police capture fifth escapee; seizes 3 guns, ammunition and marijuana

Trinidad and Tobago: Commissioner of Police Ag Mc Donald Jacob has praised the team of officers who worked tirelessly since Sunday night to successfully secure the apprehension of five men who escaped from the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca.

CoP Ag Jacob also thanked the public members who shared invaluable information with the police, which led to the recapture of the escapees. He said the collaboration between the various operational and intelligence-gathering arms of the TTPS and its partners, along with the assistance of civic-minded members of the public, made the manhunt an overwhelming success.

Anthony Seepersad, the fifth man who escaped from the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, on Sunday night, was apprehended by police on March 23, 2022. A video currently circulating on social media shows the unfolding drama of officers finding the escapee hiding in the trunk of a vehicle being driven by a lone male suspect. Both men were taken into police custody, and investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, four men who were recaptured after escaping from the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, on Sunday night, were slapped with more prison time when they appeared before an Arima Magistrate yesterday, charged with escaping lawful custody.

Kevin Jagdeo, Theon Thomas, Kurien Douglas, and Shaquille Drayton were sentenced to two years, eight months each to run consecutively, on the completion of their present sentences being served, when they appeared before Magistrate Dubay on March 22, 2022 (Tuesday).

The men were charged by W/Sgt Ag Robinson-Mottley.

Police efforts to take illegal guns off the streets and out of the hands of criminals continue across the country.

An anti-crime exercise conducted by officers of the Western Division yesterday resulted in officers finding one AR-15 rifle along with two magazines with forty rounds of ammunition in a forested area in the Richplain, Diego Martin district.

In one another exercise, officers of the Arima Municipal Task Force were on mobile patrol in the Malabar district around 2:45 PM on March 22, when they held two male suspects. A search resulted in officers finding one Glock pistol loaded with an extended magazine containing 21 rounds of ammunition, along with 1,400 grams of marijuana in the men’s possession. The men were arrested in connection with the finds.

Also, officers of the Barrackpore Police Station found one Glock 17 pistol fitted with a magazine containing 18 rounds of ammunition at the scene of a report of wounding incident around 10:30 PM on March 22, in the district.

Investigations are ongoing into this incident.
