Trinidad and Tobago: The Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart R. Young, MP, met with Meg O’Neill, Chief Executive Officer of Woodside Energy, at Woodside’s office in Houston, Texas, USA on October 13, 2022.
Also attending the meeting were Sandra Fraser, Permanent Secretary (Ag) of the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, Woodside’s Shiva McMahon, EVP International Operations, Juan Vazquez, President and Country Manager, Woodside Trinidad and Tobago and Dr Carla Noel-Mendez, Corporate Affairs Manager, Woodside Trinidad and Tobago.
O’Neill and Minister Young discussed Woodside’s current operations in Trinidad and Tobago, the deep-water Calypso Project and New Energy possibilities.
Discussions surrounded Woodside’s continuation of operations in Trinidad and Tobago and how they could work with the Government to ensure further investments geared towards continued oil and gas production in existing fields. Minister Young also focused on the pursuit of commercial discussions with respect to the development of the Calypso Project’s deep-water resources, which are currently being appraised.

As Woodside has committed to an initial investment of USD 5 billion in new energy in Trinidad and Tobago. Minister Young advised that the Government is interested in pursuing initiatives in Carbon Capture Sequestration and Utilization and Hydrogen as part of its policy of keeping Trinidad and Tobago competitive in the global energy sector and also in fulfilling its commitments to the reduction of harmful Green House Gases.
Minister Young and O’Neill agreed to continue working to ensure and explore further development of resources in Trinidad and Tobago. Minister Young would return to Trinidad and Tobago on October 14, 2022.
