A 53-year-old man was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a surety when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Cheron Raphael at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Trinidad and Tobago: A 53-year-old man was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a surety when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Cheron Raphael at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 4, 2022, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.

As per the bail condition, the accused is required to stay 100 feet away from the victim and was ordered to have no communication directly or indirectly with her.

According to a police report, on Saturday, April 2, 2022, a woman and a man had a harsh argument, during which it was alleged that the man struck the woman with an object, which caused the victim to sustain injuries to her forehead.

WPC Ramsaran of the Eastern Division Gender-Based Violence Unit conducted an investigation into the matter, which resulted in the arrest of a man on April 2.

The accused is expected to reappear at the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on April 29, 2022.

Earlier, a labourer Charged with Assault was granted $175,000 bail.

A 30-year-old labourer was granted $175,000 bail after appearing before Magistrate Cheron Raphael at the Sangre Grande Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The man was also ordered to stay 100 metres away from the victim and was told not to have any contact with her.

The Manzanilla resident was charged with common assault and malicious damage on Friday, April 1, 2022. He would reappear in court on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

According to a police report, around 10 pm on Saturday, March 19, 2022, on returning home, a man observed a woman listening to music on her tablet. Shortly after, he heard the sound of notifications on the device indicating incoming messages being received. He allegedly became enraged after enquiring about the sender of the messages, picked up the tablet, and slammed it against a wooden post causing the screen to crack. He then allegedly slapped the victim on her face several times, picked up a cutlass, and threatened to kill her.

Investigations were supervised by Supt. Claire Guy-Alleyne and W/Insp Bacchus, conducted by WPC Bishop, led to the man’s arrest on Friday, April 1, 2022.
