St Kitts’ Department of Gender Affairs is working closely with vulnerable groups for ensuring the protection of their rights and advocating on their behalf for related matters.
Senior Gender Officer in the Department of Gender Affairs, Mrs Shinnel Charles, said that they are working closely with the Special Victims Unit as everyone is looking for justice.
She added that they work with Social Development because they go out to the communities and look after the elders.
CEO at the Grange Healthcare Facility, Mrs Patricia Richards-Leader, asked if the department would like having a register of caregivers.
Mrs Charles responded that they need to know about police records and if they are trained and see if they know how to deal with the elderly.
The department also works with the Legal Aid Centre, which is a unit in the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs.
Mrs Charles spoke about the relationship between the Department of Gender Affairs and the NGOs.
She said that the department works with the NGOs.
She added that the are several churches around the country which they worked with and gotten shelter, clothes etc.
Mrs Charles encouraged persons to contact the Department of Gender Affairs on Victoria Road in Basseterre if they need assistance or information.
