St Kitts and Nevis to host first Business Sensitization seminar, Denzil Douglas invites retailers

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Minister for Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas extended an invitation to all the retailers for the Business Sensitization Seminar. The seminar is conducted with a motive to ensure that management and employees comply with all the rules and regulations of the organization. 

As per the information, this would be the first Business Sensitization seminar at the island nation after the passing of the Consumer Affairs Protection Bill 2023. The seminar has been scheduled to take place on Thursday, 14th March 2024 at the Agriculture Department Large Conference Room, Laguerite from 9 am-12 pm.

While sharing the details about the seminar, Minister Denzil Douglas wrote “The Consumer Affairs Department invites ALL Retailers to its First Business Sensitization Seminar since the passing of the Consumer Affairs Protection Bill 2023.”

This symposium is being hosted by the Consumer Affairs Department of the island nation with the vision to simplify the legislation for the people and businesses helping them understand their obligations towards the consumers.

The topics that will be discussed in the first Business Sensitization Seminar include, Consumer Protection Bill 2023, Compliance Requirements for Businesses and Penalty for non-compliance with the law.

Notably, before 2024, the Consumer Affairs Department officers didn’t have the right to issue fines to businesses that breach the law of the existing consumer protection legislation. However, from April 2024, the officers have been permitted to issue citations, ranging from $750-$2000 to businesses that are non-compliant with the laws.

The businesses can secure their seat for attending the seminar by contacting the Consumer Affairs Department, dialling 465-2521 Ext 3211/3350.
