St Kitts and Nevis: Government has announced that it would provide financial assistance to the residents who have been unemployed for a long time. As per the latest development, the government would provide support of around $1,000 per month.

This support will provide aid to the people and their families in improving their conditions.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris during the sixth National Convention of the People’s Labour Party (PLP) on March 26, 2022 (Saturday).

During his presentation, PM Harris stated, “The government would soon announce various measures that would bring great relive for the residents of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. The newly added announcements could be included the reduction in the price of the gases at the pumps of the twin-island Federation. Moreover, it also included the reduction in certain taxes on several items such as groceries and many more, that will make the cost of living more manageable and adjustable.”

Prime Minister Harris also highlighted that the Government appointed by the people has been working for its people.

Further, he outlined that this income support to the unemployed people will assist them in fulfilling their daily needs.

He stated, “The government is going to extend the income support for those who are unemployed citizens in the nation by the $1,000 per month. I think we had the Budget 2022 in which it is mentioned that we will do it for three months, but we will also extend it for another three months to assist them because we really care about them and also monitor the situation of the country.”

He added that the government would provide financial support worth $1,000 per month to unemployed citizens. PM Harris noted, “We will keep the amount the same for the first three months, and after three months and soon it will be increased because ‘we care’.”
