St Lucia: SLP stated the works of the UWP Government and shared the amid a situation of St Lucia.
SLP states that the Ministry of Health informed the country that the coronavirus’s new UK variant is present in Saint Lucia. The evidence that five persons diagnosed in mid -December had been contaminated with the Coronavirus’s new strain. Two of these are UK residents and the others Saint Lucian nationals.
On December 21st, the SLP called for emergency travel restrictions for arrivals from the UK because of the new variant’s development. At the time, more than 40 nations had forced similar travel restrictions due to that development.
St Lucia’s hospitals and healthcare systems are in crisis. We hear from the nurses and doctors that the surge of COVID-19 patients and the normal operations are placing a strain on the nation.
This situation is a national crisis. The current Government has failed to prioritize hospitals and health infrastructure. St. Jude’s Hospital remains incomplete, along with other health centers. And, now, the health system is buckling under the weight of all the new coronavirus patients.
Earlier this month, the UWP Government resumed the schools even though cases were spiking. That’s a failure. The UWP Government canceled the laptop plans.
According to SLP, the people of Saint Lucia are worried about their lives. They are concerned about their loved ones. Saint Lucians proceed to observe the COVID-19 protocols, and they deserve better. The SLP is calling again for the immediate closing of the border with the UK and the implement of second tests for visitors, and the full quarantine period of 14 days.
Furthermore, SLP added, while we know that the Government did not cause the COVID-19 pandemic, we believe that they continue to mismanage its handling. The Government failed to prioritize healthcare by not correctly using the money provided for COVID-19 relief and consistently ignores the Opposition’s appeals.
