Reported surge in COVID-19 cases raises concerns in St Kitts

St Kitts and Nevis reported an increase in COVID-19 cases at the JNF Hospital, which sparked concern among citizens. Patients claim that they have been informed about the rise in cases, with nurses in accidents and emergencies not seen in COVID-19 attire.

With COVID-19 reportedly making a comeback, the region has been left in the dark, unsure of the threat they may face. Many citizens are expressing their concerns due to the rise in the cases.

Notably, people across the country took to their official social media handle (Facebook) to express their concerns regarding the uprising of cases.

While reacting to the post, one user by the name of Joyce Byron commented, “Covid-19 never left. I think this particular virus is here to stay so we all have to take precautions.”

Another person named as Grace Washington wrote, “Covid… steupppsss ppl still get the flu. All my life it was the flu every year. Like they want to close you all down again.”

Additionally, when during the rise of COVID-19 in 2022, St Kitts and Nevis recorded about fifty cases in January 2022. The data was shared in a report by the Ministry of Health and Wellness of the twin-island Federation.

Of all the COVID-19 tests conducted by the healthcare facilities on the island, 58,696 individuals tested negative.

In addition, as per the announcement on August 15, 2022, and effective immediately, the Caribbean island- of St Kitts and Nevis has removed all entry requirements previously put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If a person tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival or when departing St Kitts, he/she was required to isolate. Unfortunately, the pandemic resulted in fewer tourist arrivals, and the Federation witnessed a significant reduction in employment in the sector.

According to the media reports, the state of emergency in St Kitts and Nevis has expired effective on January 1, 2022.
