PM Terrance Drew meets Taiwan President, Lai Ching-te, aims to uplift relations
Dr. Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis met with the President of Taiwan, Lai Ching-te on Monday.

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Dr. Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis met with the President of Taiwan, Lai Ching-te on Monday. They exchanged several dialogues and emphasized on elevating both the countries towards growth and development through the deep-rooted connections shared between St. Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan.
PM Terrance Drew shared glimpses of his visit and stated that this was the first Military Honours Ceremony that had been held since President Lai’s inauguration in May. During the meeting, the leader of the nation shed light on various topics in order to elevate their friendship and both the nations to greater heights. He noted that this long-lasting friendship, which has crossed the miles of more than 40 years is built on the principles of democracy, mutual respect and shared values.
“I was officially welcomed to Taiwan this morning, along with our delegation, with a grand Military Honours Ceremony at the Presidential Office in Taipei,” noted Dr. Drew.
PM Terrance Drew addressed all the esteemed guest members and extended gratitude for his elaborate welcome. He stated that he is eternally grateful to the Government and the citizens of Taiwan for their assistance in achieving their objectives. He highlighted the dedication of both the countries towards exploring new avenues for cooperation especially in the areas such as healthcare, agriculture, public infrastructure, ICT and environmental conservation.
He further highlighted about the contributions made by Taiwan and stated that they have helped St Kitts and Nevis a lot through technical and financial assistance, capacity building and international advocacy.
Moreover, PM Drew discussed his future plans for St Kitts and Nevis with President Lai and shed light on the agreement signed for the new climate-smart JNF general Hospital which will become the flagship hospital in the nation. He remarked that the hospital will play a crucial role in establishing comprehensive “health city” in the island nation.
The leader of the nation aimed to bring sustainability to the health sector of the island nation and enhance the quality of life of the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis. Also, President Ching-te outlined the crucial partnership between the two nations and framed it as a pledge to continue to make efforts to bring prosperity to both nations.
